  • Lebanon, Pennsylvania: A lonely chair that sits on the porch of her fathers house in Lebanon, PA. The lone chair is a very big signifier of the loneliness that Anne goes through day in and day out while having to deal with life and her self-injury. .."I'm pulling back into myself, not really living, not really doing much of anything.   • Lebanon, Pennsylvania: Anne Martin, living in Lebanon Pennsylvania, has been cutting herself since she was 14 years old. Stress from a tough childhood, the death of her biological mother and ending up having to live in a orphanage for a period of time, she believes, is her reasoning for starting self injury. Martin, who is considered legally blind, stopped cutting for 10 years when her first son, Colton Martin, was born but started cutting again this past november in 2006 when she had her third miscarriage. Her miscarried newborn would be 3 months old this coming March. Martin who is originally from the south, is soon to be in the process of divorce from Colton and her last miscarried son's father. Martin is currently living with her biological father Tony Harely, half sister Allison harely and son Colton Martin in Pennsylvania. Photos by Tiffany L. Clark

  • Long Island, New York: Nicole's bed stand filled with bills, medication, books and a photo of her and her boyfriend together, who is a support for her but at the same time a reason at times to push her towards her urges of self injury. A hospital bracelet rom being hospitalized in January of 2007 also sits on her bed stand as a reminder of what she has been through and as a push to get herself from stop cutting.   • 16 year old Liliana Servin, from Mexico City, is a 16 year old mother of two who, up until 2 weeks ago, has been living on the streets of Mexico City since she was 7 years old. The Daya Shelter located in Cuajimalpa, a small town on the outskirts of Mexico City, has taken Liliana and many other girls in the same situation in to help the girls learn how to take care of their babies and children while also learning "normal" everyday tasks like cooking, laundry, cleaning, going to school, and working to prepare these young mothers how to get back into society. Liliana was admitted to Daya on June 6th, a little over a week after she gave birth to Reyna Yolanda on May 27th, 2008. Liliana, whose mother died at age 6, moved to the streets after being sexually abused multiple times by her uncle. The father of Reyna, who Liliana refers to as her husband, is working hard on making enough money to be able to get a nice place for all of them to live. Even though Liliana is happy to not be living on the streets right now, she does not want her stay at the shelter to be long so she can get back to her "husband" and also to be able to see her 3 year old son who lives with her aunt.
